Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems

Geothermal systems let you heat and cool your home in a “greener” way by using a totally renewable energy source. These systems are flexible in that they can be used as an open loop design with well water if you do not have city water to your home. Or, they can be used in a closed loop design using several hundred feet of long-lived plastic tubing in the ground on your property to act as a heat exchanger.

In heating mode, geothermal systems work by absorbing heat from the ground beneath your property and rejecting it into either the air to heat your home or into the water heater to provide reduced cost hot water in winter and free hot water in the summer months.

In cooling mode, geothermal systems work just like standard air conditioning units. The difference is that the hot air from your home is put into the ground rather than in the outside air.

Geothermal benefits include:

  • 60% lower operating cost than propane or oil heat
  • Uses totally renewable energy source
  • Zero carbon dioxide emissions on site
  • Qualifies for 30% tax credit (no cap, expires 2016)
